  • Self talk is that voice in your head that says things you don't always say out loud.
  • Often our self talk is positive (i.e. I can do it), however sometimes our self talk can be negative (i.e. I am stupid).
  • Overtime, negative self talk erodes our confidence and self-esteem and makes us feel bad about ourselves.
  • This activity focuses on helping children learn to pay attention to their self talk.
  • Children are encouraged to write the positive self talk on the apples on the tree and negative self talk on the apples on the ground.
*Activity should be modified for children under age 5 to allow them to verbally state self-talk statements, adults might have to lead with some choices or examples.

You can use these cards to play fun games like:

  • Feelings Charades- Have child act out the feelings on the cards while you or someone else tries to guess what feeling they are acting out.
  • Feelings Memory Game- Print out two sets of pumpkin feeling faces and play the classic game of Memory where you try to find matching pairs.
  • Feelings Matching Game- Print out two sets of cards and have kids find the matching feeling faces

Maryland SEFEL Pyramid Model Master Cadre Overview

This year Maryland, with guidance from the National Pyramid Consortium, launched a cadre of the state's expert trainers and coaches in the SEFEL Pyramid Model to support best practice implementation across the state.

Goal of the Cadre: Our goal is to build and grow capacity and fidelity to the SEFEL Pyramid Model across the state. This Cadre follows a model replicated in other states facilitated by the National Pyramid Consortium to develop a statewide network of experts in the Pyramid Model and invest in their ability to support the early childhood workforce, young children, and families in a variety of settings.

Cadre Objectives: Individualized agendas will be developed for each webinar with cadre member attendance taken each time.

  • Review Practice Based Coaching and discuss Master Cadre Member's implementation of the model within their SEFEL work
  • Hear from Pyramid Consortium Leadership on SEFEL Training & Coaching Fidelity Measures
  • Review data entry and management into the OMS System
  • Discuss local and state mechanisms for Pyramid Model training and coaching sustainability

Early childhood trauma generally refers to the traumatic experiences that occur to children aged 0-6.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) was created by Congress in 2000 as part of the Children's Health Act to raise the standard of care and increase access to services for children and families who experience or witness traumatic events. The NCTSN is administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and coordinated by the UCLA-Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS) and offers a range of resources and supports to the workforce across the county working to support children and families. https://www.nctsn.org
