Bio: Dr. Shaw is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work where he teaches data-focused child welfare research and child welfare policy. His research is focused on a line of inquiry centered on the experience of children in the child welfare system and how to leverage existing administrative data systems to improve policy and practice. Dr. Shaw is particularly interested in examining the pathways into and through the child serving systems, focusing on opportunities for state systems to understand service overlaps, improve overall service delivery, and address the multiple needs of the children and families involved with these systems. He received his Ph.D. and MPH from the University of California, Berkeley and his MSW from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He has been with the University of Maryland, School of Social Work since 2007 and he collaborates with The Institute for Innovation & Implementation primarily through the Systems of Care evaluations and child welfare data analyses.
