Bio: Aaron Betsinger is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work (SSW) and research faculty at the Institute. Dr. Betsinger conducts research related to juvenile intake and detention for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS), and he manages data collection and reporting activities related to evidence-based programs implemented with children, youth, and families in Maryland. He serves as the project coordinator for the Linking Information to eNhance Knowledge (LINKs) project, and he is leading the cost evaluation of Maryland’s IV-E Waiver Demonstration Project. Additionally, Dr. Betsinger serves as the Data Director for the National Quality Improvement Center on Tailored Services, Placement Stability and Permanency for LGBTQ Children and Youth in Foster Care. Prior to joining the Institute in July 2012, Dr. Betsinger served as a faculty researcher at the University of Maryland’s Institute for Governmental Service and Research (IGSR), where his work focused on youth in the juvenile justice system as well as youth who are co-involved in the child welfare system. He received both his Ph.D. and M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park, and he received his B.S. in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University. He is a member of Baltimore City’s Youth Justice & Equity Council.
